Dear Fraters,

Each year the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council work with Penn State’s student organizations to host a dance marathon benefiting families struggling with the devastating effects of pediatric cancer. The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, better known as THON, is a 46-hour no sleeping, no sitting event which benefits the Four Diamonds Fund at the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Since the inaugural dance marathon in 1973, THON has grown into the largest student-run philanthropy in the world; having raised a cumulative $127 million. This past year alone, through the efforts of 15,000 student volunteers and 700 dancers, over $13 million were raised.

Pi Chapter TKE is honored to participate in this event and join in the fight against pediatric cancer. We are delighted to join efforts with our new sorority pairing, Alpha Chi Omega for THON 2016. The brothers of TKE and sisters of AXΩ have always been great friends and we are truly excited for the amazing accomplishments and memories to come. However, earlier this year, we were struck with tragedy when Alpha Chi Omega sister Tally Sepot passed while volunteering on the first canning weekend. Since then, TKE, AXΩ, and the Penn State community have grown closer than ever before and are more determined than ever to participate in this great cause to honor Tally’s memory.

Last year, three of our seniors represented the house as dancers. They earned this honor through their continued involvement and dedication to THON. Many of our brothers spent three weekends between September and November at stoplights all across the northeast part of the country collecting donations from cars passing by. These efforts, along with generous donations from family and friends have allowed us to raise an incredible amount of money for the cause. I am extremely proud to announce that last year we were able to raise a Pi Chapter record of $100,000 between Tau Kappa Epsilon and our previous sorority partner, Alpha Xi Delta. We need your help in achieving our new goal this year, which is to place in the top 5 fundraising pairs for Greek Life so we can continue the tradition of excellence that TKE represents.

On the weekend of February 20-22, three of our active members will represent our brotherhood by standing for 46 consecutive hours on the floor of the Bryce Jordan Center in support of the Four Diamonds Fund and all of the families that it represents. Although we are pleased with the amount that was raised last year, we are striving once again to set a new Pi Chapter record to continue to build the reputation of the fraternity while benefiting those who strongly need it.

We are reaching out to alumni, family and friends to help us with this cause. We would very much appreciate all support and donations. If you are able to assist in our efforts, please visit giveto.psu.edu/THON-TauKappaEpsilon and click on “Donate Now.”
